Search Engine Marketing (SEM) includes both Search
Engine Optimization (SEO) to improve natural search
engine rankings and Pay Per Click (PPC) to advertise
directly on the search engines to help drive traffic.
Search Engine Optimization
SEO is the process of optimizing specific pages for
search engine visibility such that when the search
engine robot crawls the website, the page is readable,
titles and internal links make sense and are
descriptive. These steps are necessary to ensure the
site is appropriately indexed within the search
engines' databases.
A second step involves evaluating the queries that are
anticipated to draw users to the site, and ensuring
the right terms are present in the copy, all the while
maintaining the overall quality and feel of the site.
While this process does not guarantee a position
within the search result, it does increase the likelihood
of ranking for selected search terms if best practice
guidelines are implemented during the page design
and development process.
Pay Per Click
PPC listings typically appear at the top and to the side
of search engine result pages. Nearly every business
can achieve a top PPC placement. While some terms
are more competitive than others, the use of creative
and well-designed keywords is essential to an
effective campaign.
Zebra Quest typically sets up ad campaigns with
Google, Yahoo, and MSN and others if relevant to the
client’s market. We generally start with a two to
three month pilot phase during which we continually
assess the effectiveness of targeted keywords and ad
copy.
